MINDS is a 10-year-old premier dental education institution, located in Mahe, Pondicherry, started in the year 2009. This affiliated college is also NAAC accredited and DCI recognised, and it has a 5.672-acre campus, where it provides the following dental programmes. MINDS currently has an enrolment of 464 students and has 177 teaching faculty, which makes it a great learning institution. The institute teaches 7 courses at 2 degree levels and focuses on the area of dentistry. Very populous, the students’ population is made of students from other states, representing 64% of total enrolled students, and is female-dominated; 80% of undergraduate students.

In addition to a huge collection of books, MINDS provides students with different facilities for their practical day-to-day lives and education. Boys and girls have their separate hostels to facilitate a comfortable stay for outstation students. The college not only has a canteen to meet the students’ dietary requirements but also a variety of them inclusive of vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods. 

In the field of academics and careers, the institute includes an auditorium for organising common events and seminars along with a separate lab for every department for hands-on practical knowledge. Taking care of the bodily health of the students, a football ground, basketball court, and a gym are available in the college. In that regard, MINDS keeps up with the latest IT innovations by having a good IT infrastructure. In the same, there is a health centre to meet any first aid services as well since every man has exigent medical emergencies.

Here the institute is providing all types of dental education courses. For the undergraduate MINDS offers a BDS programme with awards and 100 seats. The college provides several postgraduate courses, like various Master of Dental Surgery specialisations, like Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Prosthodontics, Periodontology and Implantology and Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry. These postgraduate programmes usually contain between 2 and 3 seats per programme. All the offered courses are day programmes, making the education process highly intense and specific to dental teaching. Student admission at MINDS is very competitive and based on merit. The criteria for admission to BDS programmes are that the candidate has to qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) and pass in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with at least 50 scores in the 12th standard. The selection criterion is the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) merit list based on the candidate’s NEET UG rank. The basic eligibility criteria for admission in MDS programmes include a BDS degree from a DCI-recognised college with a one-year compulsory rotating internship and clearing the NEET MDS examination. The selection into postgraduate courses is achieved through a performance index given by the NEET-MDS score.
